Do Texas Baptists need a Memphis Style Declaration?

Today was my day off and I was outside mowing my jungle of a backyard.  I was pondering the events of our BGCT Convention trying to not get too disgusted.  For the past three days I’ve been asking myself, “How can we be heard?  How can we be assured that things are going to be taken care of with the ValleyGate Scandal?”

When I read the report on October 31, one phrase stuck out over and over again, “lack of subpoena power.”  Was everything turned over by the executives of the BGCT so that a complete investigation could take place.  There was a motion made on the floor of the state convention to require the Executive Committee to turn over the investigation to a law enforcement agency so that there could be a complete investigation.  The motion was ruled out of order.  Again that phrase rang through my mind, “lack of subpoena power.”  What is there to hide?  Maybe there is nothing, but how will we know for sure outside the offices of 333 North Washington in Dallas.

Anyway, as I was mowing my jungle, the blogsite SBC Outpost came to mind.  I remembered reading about a Memphis Declaration probably in May 2006.  A bunch of ministers/pastors came together in Memphis, Tennessee before the SBC Convention to bring about a voice of change in the SBC.  Do we need to do something like that here in Texas?

Do those of us who want to get to the bottom of this Valley Gate need to get together, and with one voice let our Executive Committee know that more needs to be done about this issue?  I’m glad they are working toward preventing this in the future.  But what about the possible wrongs that were done?

I wonder how many there are in Texas who love the ministries of the BGCT but are having a hard time trusting the leadership of the BGCT?  All I’m asking is for is a full investigation where there are no roadblocks.  Come clean!  Allow me to put trust in you again.  Until that happens there will always be seeds of doubt in my mind.

Agree or disagree?

    Friend,
An honest investigation with teeth should be available to BGCT supporters. Sadly, that requires subpeona power. The elitists have really stonewalled on this one.

A Memphis declaration on this one? Not a bad idea.

    Great idea,

The more people that are willing to stand against this evil the more likely we are to see something done. I hope you have called the FBI yourself and asked them if they are going to look into this. I believe that if you have given money to the BGCT you have the right to do this!

Still, I would love to join with others in seeing a strong stand taken.
