Rearranged Plans

Please be in prayer for my mother in law.  It looks like she has either menegitus or west nile.  We are getting ready to head down to Childress to check on her in the hospital.  Sounds like she has been pretty sick for 11 days now.  She was admitted to the hosptial Wednesday.  Her name is Trish.

Now that the convention is over, can we have a friendly debate on who our next Ex. Dir. should be?  Name your candidate and tell why he should be our next Ex. Dir.  I think this would be fun and a good learning experience for us all.

    I nominate Rick Davis.

Well, I really did submit his name to the committee. But, then he wrote a post about how going from church work to convention work isn’t a promotion, and how he’s been so much healthier since leaving the Baptist Building. But, his name is still there. Now, I wonder if they will actually consider him for more than just 2 seconds… hm….

You got a name to submit?

I don’t know many people, but one name that I heard from one of my friends is Jim Dennison. After hearing him Monday morning I would be interested in considering him for the next Ex. Dir. I may do a blog later on on this.

Jim Dennison would probably be great, but I’m not sure if he would want to leave his church. He has such a strong ministry there. Being and ED is so different from a pastorate, or so I’m told.

I asked Dr. Albert Reyes if I could nominate him, and he declined. He said that he was committed to his call at Buckner. I’m glad for those that live out calling trumping paycheck.

I think we need someone who 1)isn’t a political lightning rod and 2)who can be respected and trusted by all of the various theo-political constituencies in the BGCT. Someone like Dr. Timothy George from Samford, or Dr. David Dockery. Someone from outside the circles of the kingmakers and influence peddlers in the BGCT. Someone who could be invited to speak in chapel at both Truett and Southwestern. Maybe even someone who has led a state convention through a crisis. Someone like Steve Bass, who is currently the Executive Director of the Arizona Southern Baptist Convention, and who has helped lead them through recovery from the Baptist Foundation of Arizona scandal, which ranked right up there with Enron.

Someone who holds a high view of scripture as the authoritative, divinely inspired, written Word of God, and believes that Jesus is the only way to have a relationship with God through eternity.
