God of the here and now

Just picked up Tozer's book, God's Pursuit of Man, off of my shelf.  Read the first chapter and have been done some repenting.  The idea that God laid on my heart through this chapter is this.  How many times do we see God in the past, look for Him in the future, but live that He is with us in the here and now?

We know that He is with us in the here and now, but do we live it?  Do we acknowledge Him?  When we come together for worship and Bible study, we know He says that He is with us, but do we truly believe it?  In our worship we say that God is in our midst, but does our worship show it?  We work in our offices, minister to the people, preach from the pulpit, but do we do these things with the awareness that God is beside us every step of the way?  How would our lives be different if we truly realized that God is with us in the here and now, not just in the past, or waiting for us in the future?

We cannot not truly know God if we just read His acts in His Word, can we?  Our faith is not based upon ideas, but it built upon a relationship with our Creator, our Redeemer.  We need to exerience Him in the here and now!  It needs to be real and it needs to be fresh.  The only way we can have this happen is to acknowledge that God is with me as I type this, and He is with you as you read it.  He is with our people right now as they work, as they travel, as they play with their kids, as they watch T.V., as they are doing whatever they do.  Let us realize and acknowledge that God is with us right now.  Let's see how He transforms us today.

My Head is Spinning, So I'm Getting Off the Merry Go Round ......

.......for a few minutes.  Well, the vote for an interim executive director has snuck up on me.  Guess I've been busy with other stuff.  Here are my thoughts on this development, for what they are worth .......

1.  Voting on an interim is an excellent move by the search committee.  It shows that they are not bound by a time table.

2.  It would be nice if we could add one word in front of the interim executive director's titile, that is "intentional".  I believe it would be in the best interest of the new executive director and the future of the BGCT to have someone come in and get the house somewhat in order before a new guy comes in (and I do mean guy).

3.  Montoya has it right in that our interim does not need to listen to no one other than the churches.  Forget Currie and the elite! Listen to the churches or this convention will be hurting for a long, long, time.

Keep praying for my parents.  The insurance company seems to think that Dad is too far gone to have any rehab despite what his doctor, nurses, and physical therapists say.   Because of that, he is getting worse at home.

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas.

God is good all the time, all the time God is good!

It Has Been A Ride ......

Yes, it has been a ride for the past few weeks.  My dad went into the hospital on November 18 and is still there.  Right now we have him in Amarillo.  Needless to say, I've been juggling the church, my home, and my dad since then.  Not sure what this Christmas season will bring.  I'm praying that I'll get to have one last Christmas with my dad.  That has been a rough prayer.
Through it all, God has been good!  He has multiplied my time in studying for sermons (who would have thought that I could get more studying in a high school classroom for a sermon than my office?), and given me some incredible strength in dealing with my dad.  There have been those minutes when I have felt like losing it and God has come through with a little extra strenth and grace.  God is good!
Keep my dad and my mom in your prayers.  It is difficult for Dad to sit up without losing his breath.  He has only been out of bed a handful of times since the Saturday after Thanksgiving.  That is what 45 years of smoking will do for a guy.  I'll be updating when I have a chance.
Remember that God is good all the time!
