My Thoughts on Dana Jacobson
I must admit, I love sports talk. What I like even more is sports talk that is televised. Thus, I'm hooked on ESPN's Mike & Mike in the Morning over on ESPN2. These guys have been teamed up together for a while and they are great together. I get a kick out of listening/watching them.
Anyway, I couple of weeks ago there was a roast of these two guys put on by ESPN. If you haven't heard, the co-host of another ESPN 2 morning program, Dana Jacobson, apparently had one two many shots of vodka and got up and spewed from the mouth some very course language. Apparently the most severe language was directed at Notre Dame and Jesus. After she sobered up, she asked for forgiveness for her transgressions. ESPN has suspended her for one week, I assume without pay, for what she said.
Well, word has leaked out about this incident. Now Christian organizations, including the Catholic League, is outraged. They talk is that her punishment was not enough. There are calls for her being fired. Even one Christian organization will picket ESPN today at 12:00 EST. This afternoon ESPN execs are suppose to meet with the leaders of the Christian organiation.
My question is simply this .... Should we as Christians be forcing ESPN to fire her? Shouldn't her apology be enough and should we forgive her and let ESPN's punishment be enough? I have read some say that if she directed her comments toward Mohammed she would have been fired immediatly and would have had to go into hiding for fear of her life.
We must remember that we are Christians. We derive that name because we are to immitate Jesus. Jesus forgives when we ask for forgiveness. We must forgive as well. We may choose not to watch Dana again, but we should not call for her firing. We are above all of this. Maybe if we truly forgive her, she will see what Jesus is all about, and thus turn her heart towards him? Just my thoughts on the subject.
